Coastal Cottage Tableware Plates

Coastal Cottage Tablewear from Cottage & Bungalow

This friday, I am hooked on this set of tablewear from Cottage & Bungalow. I usually wouldn't have a problem picking a favorite, but I have to say I love each and everyone one of these patterns.

The best thing about this tablewear set is that it is temperature resistant. According to Cottage & Bungalow, these beauties can go straight from the freezer to the oven and not crack. This means, it's safe to use these in the microwave and not burn your hands when you pull them out.

I have to say, these are on my birthday wish list for next month.

Farmhouse Sink Nothing says "Cottage Style" like having a Farmhouse sink in your kitchen. Farmhouse sinks are also commonly referred to as Apron Front Sinks. The deep and wide basin allows for even the biggest of pots and pans to fit easily. You can easily find some great bargins on antiques on places like craigslist.org or local fleamarkets, but keep in mind that most antique sinks won't be easily fitted to your homes more modern plumbing. A great bargin can end up a considerable expense if you have to purchase special fittings or hire a plumber to do custom plumbing work to accomate your antique farmhouse sink.

For those of you who want the style without the hassel and expense, there are several sink manufactures that make new replica farmhouse sinks or have created their own farmhouse sink with a more modern twist. Here are some of my favorite farmhouse sinks available for purchase today:

One of my favorite resources for cottage style furnishings is the company Maine Cottage. Opening shop over 20 years ago in Yarmouth, Maine they perfectly filled the need for more colorful cottage furnishings. All of their furniture is either hand made or finished here in the USA. All of their wood peices can be painted in over 40 colors. One piece I absolutely love is the Lizzie bed show below. They even have bunk beds perfect for your cottage's bunk house.

I love taking a room that is though of as a boring, utilitarian space and decorating it. Honestly, it's all in the details. I have to say that when I see someone's laundry room decorated, I am impressed. Why not take a space that is typically associated with work and make it just a little bit more enjoyable to look at? I might just not mind doing laundry so much. Granted, some of us aren't lucky in the laundry room space department, but I've found a couple little things that add a nice touch to the room without taking up additional space. First of all, you should paint your walls a cheery, happy color, because obviously, a little mood lifter in the laundry room can help. After you've painted your room, try adding some wall graffiti to your walls like the laundry definition that is pictured here from Wonderful Graffiti:

Sears Catalog Homes Can you even falthom being able to mail-order your cottage or bungalow complete with materials and all for only $1,298? Crazy Right? I absolutely adore the cottages and bungalows that were once sold from a catalog from 1908 to 1940. Their is no offical count of just how many Sears catalog homes are still standing today but during that time it is reported that over 100,000 home kits were sold.

The kit pricing included everything required to build the house- right down to the pre-cut lumber, nails and varnish. Each kit would arrive by train and Dads everywhere along with their brothers and uncles would spend the next couple of days putting the home together. Between 1908 to 1940, Sears archetects designed 447 different houses. Also sold were farm buildings, barns, outhouses, garages and summer cottages. At different points in time Sears...

Rose Petal Cottage

Rose Petal Cottage

Start developing that "love of eveything cottage" in our young with Hasbros Rose Petal Cottage. Complete with windows and a dutch door.  How cute is this. The cottage comes in two halves that slide together after playing to minimize the floor space and also comes  furnished with tons of cute additions such as a washing machine, kitchen sink, and a nursery set.

One of Houston Heights Tree and Cottage Lined Streets

Houston Heights In 1886 self-made millionaire Oscar Martin Carter had a vision for a master-planned community located about four miles from downtown Houston, the spot Oscar choose was perfect. Carter's vision was to create a place where grand Victorian mansions and working class cottages coexist together in harmony. The Heights was an independent city for 25 years before being annexed by the city of Houston in 1918. Named the "Heights" because it's 23 feet above sea level, which Carter and the other founders thought would be high enough to escape the mosquitoes.

The result today is a charming area in close proximity to the hustle and bustle and convenience of downtown Houston but with small-town feel. With it's tree-lined streets, eclectic boutiques and community events such as the Historic...
